MORE TOURS At Wild West Wilderness Tours we're always willing to customize a tour according to the interests and needs of our clients. Whether you're interested in New Mexico history, exploring ancient Indian ruins, remote desert badlands, mountain hikes or a combination of all of the above; and whether you're looking for a one day tour or a multi-day tour, we will be happy to offer a customized tour for you or your group. Below are some suggestions for additional day trips, all of which we highly recommend: Sky City (Acoma Pueblo) - Sky City has been called the oldest, continuosly inhabited city in the United States. Built on a remote mesa towering 357 feet above the desert, this pueblo has been home to the Acoma people since at least the 12th century and possibly much longer. We can take a tour of Sky City led by an Acoma guide, where we'll also see the Spanish church built between 1629 and 1640. The Acoma people are world famous for their beautiful pottery and we'll have the opportunity to meet the artists and shop for pottery while we're on our tour. We could also do a combined tour of Sky City and El Malpais (The Badlands) in one day. Chaco Canyon - The ancient Anasazi settlements in Chaco Canyon were built between 850 and the early 1200's A.D. Surprisingly, this remote canyon was the hub of a vast and vibrant Anasazi civilization. The extraordinary masonry work of the Chaco stone masons has enabled the walls of these buildings to stand for over a thousand years. Chaco has been designated a World Cultural Site by the United Nations. Salinas Pueblo Missions - These three ancient pueblos are 700 or more years old and were colonized by the Spanish in the early 1600's. The Pueblo missions were abandoned in the 1670's and today the magnificent Pueblo and Spanish ruins stand side by side. Spend a day exploring and photographing the fascinating archeological sites of two distinctly different cultures. You might also want to stop in Mountainair to visit the quaint antique shops and have lunch at the historic hotel. Wheeler Peak - New Mexico's highest mountain (13,161 ft.) can be hiked on a one, two or three day trip with stops at Horseshoe Lake and Lost Lake, two of the most beautiful spots in New Mexico. The Wheeler Peak Wilderness contains New Mexico's most spectacular mountain scenery and we know the most scenic trails well. Sandia Mountains - High above the city of Albuquerque the spectacular cliffs of the Sandias reach a height of 10,678 feet. The Sandias are like a beautiful, green, forested island in the desert affording breathtaking views of Albuquerque and the Rio Grande Valley over 5,000 feet below. There are many trails to explore and we know them all. Badlands - In addition to the Ojito Wilderness there are 8 other badland areas to explore in Northwestern New Mexico that very few people have ever heard of. We know where they are and can take you there.
