EL MALPAIS

(THE BADLANDS)

On this tour we'll visit a mysterious land of lava beds, spectacular rock formations and ancient Anasazi Indian ruins. We'll view the lava beds from high above on the Sandstone Bluffs and we'll also hike out into the lava beds, where we'll see some very rare lava falls. You may want to hike part of the famous Zuni-Acoma Trail, which has been called the oldest, continuously used trail in North America. For 1,500 years this trail has meandered through the lava beds, connecting these two famous pueblos. We'll also stop by La Ventana Natural Arch, which is a must see spot for the photographers. Next we'll drive through the beautiful Cebolla Wilderness and take a short hike into Armijo Canyon, where we'll visit the ruins of an 800 year old Anasazi settlement. This trip is a full day of seeing sights you're not likely to see anywhere else in America.

Best time: Year round

Price: $75.00  per adult
